The U Card Office at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities is proud to announce the launch of a redesigned U Card to promote mental health and well-being. The new U Card incorporates crucial resources for community members facing crises, including the University student crisis line, text line, and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and text line. This initiative, spearheaded by the U Card Office in collaboration with the Office for Student Affairs, Boynton Health, Office of Human Resources, and the President’s Initiative for Student Mental Health (PRISMH), represents a significant step forward in prioritizing mental health on campus. Input from the Undergraduate Student Government at the University was also considered throughout the project.
This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of the University of Minnesota to prioritize mental health. The project involved careful planning, extensive research, and consultations with campus partners to ensure the effectiveness and relevance of the resources provided.
In addition to the mental health resources now provided on the U Card, the redesigned U Card retains all existing functionalities, including building access, the Universal and Employee Transit Passes, and campus currencies. Including mental health resources aims to create a culture of care and support on campus, reminding students and staff that they are not alone and that help is readily available.
The new U Card design is now featured on outgoing U Cards on the Twin Cities and Rochester campuses and is expected to launch on the Crookston, Duluth, and Morris campuses in the coming months. It is important to note that while new U Cards will feature the updated design, existing U Cards will continue to function and will not need replacement.
