Important Update: Changes to Gopher GOLD Account Terms and Conditions

Updates to the Gopher GOLD Account Terms and Conditions will be effective March 1, 2025. These changes are designed to enhance the security and functionality of your Gopher GOLD account.

Key Changes

  1. Mail-In Deposits: The U Card Office will no longer accept mail-in deposits of any kind. Any mailed deposits will be returned to the sender. In-person and online deposits are still accepted.
  2. Inactive Accounts: Previously, accounts inactive for 12 or more months were subject to a $3 per month inactivity fee with the entire balance forfeited after 18 months. The $3 inactivity fee from months 12-17 has been eliminated. Instead, accounts with no activity for 18 consecutive months will be closed, and the remaining funds will be forfeited.
  3. Lost or Stolen Cards: Campus currency cards (cards obtained that are separate from the U Card for guest use) must be registered if they ever need to be deactivated in case of loss or theft. Unregistered cards will not be eligible for refunds. This does not apply to U Cards as those are automatically registered to the cardholder.
  4. Privacy Statement: A new section has been added outlining the use of personal information collected for the Gopher GOLD account.

Gopher GOLD and Dining Dollars Unavailable March 4-6

The Gopher GOLD and Dining Dollars management system will undergo an upgrade to enhance reliability and security from March 4–6, 2024. During this time, you will not be able to use Dining Dollars and Gopher GOLD.

Gopher GOLD Fees Paused for February 2024

Due to a software issue, Gopher GOLD inactivity fees will not be captured for February 2024.

Beginning in fall 2022, more than 39,000 University of Minnesota students who pay a Transportation and Safety Fee gained access to a Universal Transit Pass (UTP).

Huntington Bank Sponsorship Requests

To apply for a Huntington sponsorship, please review the information on the program website and complete the application form. The form must be completed 45 days prior to the event.

U Card Fee Change Overview

As approved by the Board of Regents in their June meeting, the U Card Office is initiating a fee schedule change for services relating to U Cards, the Gopher GOLD Program, department ID cards, and temporary access cards.
